You may have heard the pitch but if not, it’s below. This pitch was created by creative specialists with Philips for the wining award (ours):
“For many people living in cities, access to water is often taken for granted. Not so in the city of Sana’a in Yemen. Here, rainfall is seasonal, and water can quickly become scarce, and the city’s water table is dropping rapidly, so a more sustainable approach to water consumption is required. Please find below a link to the Philips You Tube video on the project.
“This year’s one of Philips Livable Cities Award ideas aims to address the problem of water shortage in Sana’a. By using existing flat rooftops in Sana’a as well as their rooftop water storage tanks, water can be captured during Sana’a’s two the rainy seasons. These are routed through filters to remove contaminants and placed into ground-level storage tanks. With each tank able to store up to 5,000 liters, the water – accessible via a pump – would last through the drier periods the city experiences and would help reduce reliance on dwindling groundwater reserves. And by improving the quality of the water, the scheme could also result in significant health benefits for the population of Sana’a, especially the young and elderly populations who are often the most affected by water-borne disease."
